Wooden Swords have traditionally been used as instruments for practicing sword fighting techniques. This has been true in both the area of arts such as in stage and film, to the various martial arts schools around the world.
After all it would be foolish to start swinging around a sharpened sword if you had no idea of what you were doing, as you would more than likely hurt yourself or worse, somebody else.
