Pirate Swords
With the recent movie, Pirates of the Caribbean, there has been a renewed interest in all things Pirate, including of course, Pirate Swords. Various different types of swords could be called labeled a pirate sword, including a long cutlass, a saber or a short dagger sword. Most often though we tend to think of pirate swords as long, swords that one would use to have a sword fight on the deck of a boat. One such sword would include a hand guard, and be carried in a scabbard and another similar sword is called a Dueling Rapier.
Shorter versions of pirate swords are called Scimitar Swords, which measure about 24 inches long with a blade that bends upward quite sharply. They would be carried by a pirate on their belt in a scabbard, ready for battle at a moments notice. Yet another type of pirate sword might be called a Buccaneer Cutlass, named after the pirates that attacked French and Spanish ships in the Caribbean during the 1600's. These ruthless pirates would sneak onto a boat and kill those on the boat quickly so that they could obtain all the wealth that was on the ship.
