Ninja Swords
Ninja swords, or ninjato, is the most common name for the type of sword that a ninja would have carried. History states that they came in all shapes and sizes, but were typically shorter than swords used by the samurai, known as katanas.
Even though they were shorter, the handle was identical to those of the katana and the ninja's would try to deceive their opponents by hiding their sword in a katana-length sheath so that they thought they were up against the longer samurai sword. It also allowed the ninja to draw their sword at a faster pace than their opponent would calculate when looking at the longer scabbard.
Legend has it that during samurai battles if their katanas would break, the ninjas would come along and pick up the broken off swords. The pieces were of high enough quality that they could be formed into ninja swords. Even though ninja swords are manufactured to be straight in modern society, historically, they were known to have a slight curve, though not as curved as the more average swords during this era, such as a Sabre. They were also meant to be used single-handedly and had a single-edged blade.
