Battle Ready Swords
Before the days of guns, grenades and aircraft, a good sword was a soldier's most important weapon. Battle Ready Swords, which are also sometimes called functional Swords. These were swords that don't just hang on the wall, but are swords that are ready to fight when the time comes.
Unfortunately back in the early days of sword production, creating a hard metal was not a perfect process. Often times a sword would break in the middle of battle which could obviously have disastrous consequences. If it were not for the armor that Knight's wore, a broken sword would surely mean death. After each battle, swords that were used in battle went into the “shop” so to speak – the Blacksmith shop. They were repaired or melted down and made into new battle ready swords.
Today's battle ready swords are made of much harder metals like high-carbon steel, but the cost is not cheap. Because blacksmithing is a skill that is practiced by very few people today, a good sword can be fairly expensive, especially if you want it custom made. A tremendous amount of skill and knowledge is required to create a battle sword and therefore a higher price is charged.
